STRAIGHT FROM THE FOUNTAIN

Governor's Monthly Letter, April 2008
Joseph Michael “YUMI” Espina
District Governor, D-3860

ROTARY MAGAZINE MONTH

It has been some time since we participated in a very successful Discon 2008. I received numerous congratulatory messages from various quarters praising the District Conference. Allow me to thank all those who participated and supported the various activities of the 3-day conference. Special thanks to the organizing committee headed by Discon Chair Wilton Uykingtian and the two host club Presidents Titong Rafols of Cebu Fuente and Philip Tan of Cebu West and their committees. Our thanks also go to the many sponsors, speakers and friends who contributed their time, effort and resources to make it all happen. The experience shall forever be etched in our memories.

The month of April is Rotary Magazine Month. This is to lend importance to our Rotary publications which are the RI Magazine, “The Rotarian”, our very own PRM or the “Philippine Rotary Magazine” and our GML, “The Fountainhead”. There is a wealth of rotary information in these publications which are useful to our members and may be published in our respective Club Bulletins.

The District is aware of some problems encountered by Clubs with regard to their subscription and receipt of these publications. There are some Clubs which are listed undersubscribed or terminated on account of their subscriptions. As per report by our DGR-PRM, most of these problems are actually administrative and reportorial. There is a need for Clubs to furnish records and updated information to the proper channels in both RI and PRM. The DGR-PRM has been working hard trying to inform Clubs and striving to reconcile a seemingly endless stream of problems. Let us work together towards rectifying whatever inconsistencies there are with our records in RI and the PRM. Hopefully, these could be resolved with your support.

We are now in the final stretch of our respective terms and the District is now preparing for a smooth turn-over to the next administration. Preparations are on-going for the Pets-Distas in May for both the Visayas and Mindanao Clubs. I have requested the AGs to prepare a process of turn-over in their respective zones by encouraging Clubs to plan for a Club Assembly at the end of the year. This will ensure continuity not only in our Clubs but also in the District.

With all of YOU in Sharing Rotary,

DG YUMI
